COMMITTEES EMPIRE STATE POTATO GROWERS INC.
The following committees appointments are made annually by the President

Executive/ Financial Committee: Members include Officers & Executive Director. Responsible/ authorized to make decisions concerning policy and finances of organization when necessary and appropriate due to time constraints or other factors. Gary Mahany, Karl Hofmann, Larry Bowman, Melanie Wickham.

Empire Farm Days: Members include Show Manger, Executive Committee and members @ large. Attend meetings and serve as financial/ policy advisors to show manager. Make recommendations to BOD. Melanie Wickham, Gary Mahany, Karl Hofmann, Larry Bowman, John Williams, John Matthews, Robert Martens.

By-Laws Committee: Bring issues/ do research concerning by-laws to Board as necessary.

Cornell Committee: Ad Hoc Group of growers available to talk and meet with Cornell to discuss issues facing the industry, Cornell potato program directions, and provide input and feedback as needed. Appointed as necessary.

Extension: Cornell University liaison – Walter DeJong.

Grower Education Committee: Work to create and implement an effective grower education/ industry improvement meeting schedule. To be appointed.

Potato Variety Development Fund-Chip Subcommittee: Chris Hansen-Chairman, Gary Mahany, Nate Call, John Meyer; Utz: Jim Fitzgerald, Mitch Keeney, EK Bare: Ragen Horst, Brad Halladay; Gene Herr; Cornell University: Walter DeJong. Fresh Subcommittee: John Williams, Karl Hofmann, Ralph Child, Walter DeJong.

R & D Advisory Committee: Review annual submissions and allocate monies to research projects as administered by the ESPG. Gary Mahany, Karl Hofmann, Andrew Pryputniewicz, George Wulforst, James McCormick.

National Potato Council: Attend national meetings, report back to board on issues, serve as NY representative on National level. Ralph Child, Gary Mahany.

National Potato Promotion Board: Attend national meetings, report back to board on issues, serve as NY representative on National level. Chris Hansen.

Trade: Attend national meetings, report back to board on issues, serve as NY representative on National level. Ralph Child.

Nominating: Facilitate nominations of directors & officers. Karl Hofmann.

Scholarship: Review submissions and award scholarship monies. Report to Board. Andrew Pryputniewicz, Larry Bowman, Chris Hansen, Hank Krazewski.

Trade Show Manager/ Empire Farm Days

Job Summary

Acts as Show Manager for Empire Farm Days. Directs and coordinates activities of the organization in accordance with identified company goals to obtain optimum efficiency, economy of operations, and maximize profits by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors. Reviews activity reports and financial statements of EFD to determine progress and status in attaining objectives, and revises objectives and plans in accordance with current conditions.

The position is responsible to the Empire State Potato Growers-Empire Farm Days committee.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Plan, develops and implements organization policies and goals.
  • Directs and coordinates promotion of Empire Farm Days to continue to increase exhibitor base, increase show attendance, and obtain competitive position in industry.
  • Supervises and is responsible for all personnel and service providers.
  • Analyzes Empire Farm Days budget and operating statements to identify areas in which efficiencies can be made, and allocates operating budget to achieve goals.
  • Represents and Promotes Empire Farm Days with industry, manufacturing, or trade organizations.
  • Manages, promotes, sells, assigns, and acknowledges exhibit booth space for EFD. Corresponds with exhibitors giving them detailed information regarding booth assignments, set-up, hours of operation, contractor and supplier information, etc.
  • Coordinates, Creates, Manages, Promotes and Executes additional programing, demonstrations and special events during and at the show.
  • Responsible for securing and managing sponsorships at the show.
  • Directly responsible for Show promotion and advertising.
  • Must procure EFD show site and establish working relations with host family. Coordinates negotiation of land rent with EFD Committee members.
  • Recruits and coordinates all suppliers of goods and services to EFD.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Must have an exceptional knowledge of agriculture, the equipment, inputs and practices of modern farming.
  • Must have 4 year College degree.
  • Trade Show management experience required, Farm Show experience preferred.
  • Must have excellent communication skills.

 

Executive Director, Empire State Potato Growers, Inc.

Reports to: ESPG, Inc. Board of Directors

Job Summary

Responsible for initiating and coordinating the administrative functions required in effective implementation of the policies of the Empire State Potato Growers, Inc. The position is responsible to the Executive committee of the Board of Directors of the Empire State Potato Growers, Inc.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Responsible for general office operations, provides information and receives information concerning matters related to the ESPG Inc.
  • Organize, and/or attend meetings, record notes and minutes where necessary, disseminate information to appropriate groups and individuals.
  • Maintains all files and correspondence of the activities of ESPG, Inc.
  • Serves as liaison between growers and industry (local, statewide, regional, national, international)
  • Travels as needed to represent growers as State Manager in meetings with the National Potato Council, Potatoes USA and New York State and Federal legislatures.
  • Handle correspondence and other communication with Board, committees, Growers, and other Agricultural organizations, researchers, political representatives, and such.
  • Responsible for finances of the Corporation. Work with accountant, Lawyer and other service providers to maintain legal and accurate corporate accounts.
  • Write and publish newsletter.
  • Maintain ESPG website, Facebook, Twitter and other social media outlets.
  • Performs such other relevant duties as the Board of Directors may request.
  • Maintain office space with phone, fax, computer, Internet, copier, and historical and present-day file capabilities and facilities.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Must have an exceptional knowledge of agriculture, the equipment, inputs and practices of modern farming.
  • Four year College degree.
  • Must be an excellent communicator.
